The EU's internal democratisation must be strengthened, in particular by establishing a mechanism to monitor compliance with EU law by the EU institutions.
The Commission is not and cannot be a government. Right.
The Council is the most important body of the EU, the guarantor of its democracy. Without the supremacy of the Council, the EU would be an empire, i.e. a dictatorship. Its role must be protected and strengthened in the interests of the rule of law.
The existence of the EU Parliament is incompatible with the self-determination of free states. Strengthening it leads to empire. It should be retained as a consultative body, i.e. a forum for free expression. It cannot be a factor of power because of its democratic deficit.
The Council is a black hole, there's zero transparency on decision making and no, an institution that can bury policy in total darkness and for which we have to rely on leaks and investigative journalism to find out who blocks which intitiatives (unless certain national governments want to openly push a narrative and then decide to make the negotatiation stance known) CANNOT be the guarantor of democracy.
If there were no Council, or just no veto, what would prevent the EU from becoming an empire? An empire that can impose the will of the ruler on the occupied territories. We know, such was the Habsburg Empire, the German Third Reich, the Soviet Empire. We have suffered them all, we do not need a new EU empire. Dispel my fear that the proposals are not in the direction of empire! Or is that what you want? We do not trust fine words.
Completely agree; it is now in the hands of lobbyists who manipulate commissioners and MEPs: Open Society manipulates more than a third of the chamber (https://legacy.gscdn.nl/archives/images/soroskooptbrussel.pdf) and the contacts of Durao Barroso and Ursula Von Leyer's husband with gavi.org and Pfizer make them grounds for investigation, which is never carried out. The EU is a failed project. Too bad for Konrad Adenauer, Jean Monnet, Winston Churchill, Robert Schuman, Alcide de Gasperi, Paul-Henri Spaak, Walter Hallstein and Altiero Spinelli.

Transnational parties and transnational lists for the European Parliament. Making European elections ABOUT Europe and where we want to go together as a Union rather than yet another election in which most people vote for or against their national government.
I would not abolish the Council(s), but transform them. We can use the Bundesrat as a model and adapt it. Yes, Member States should continue to drive EU policies, but not like they do today. Most people see unanimity voting as the biggest issue with the Councils, but for me the lack of transparency is what's most damaging and completely unacceptable. I was reading this great Investigative Europe article about how countries block the opening of train timetables and refuse to have their national rail monopolies share data so we the citizens who want to take the train and reduce CO2 emissions can know which international links are available when it hit me. We need INVESTIGATIVE journalism to know this! It's absurdly undemocratic.
Fully agree (with one exception)! Parliament should get the legislative initiative. There are several big topics where national agency is not enough and this is where the EU intuitions should get priority: climate crisis, migration, global health (i.e. pandemics etc.), transportation infrastructure, common digital infrastructure, science, defense and foreign policy. I don’t think that the Council will push these forward based on national interests. And of course no veto for the Council members.

Yes, I also support the right to legislative initiative for the European Parliament. A vox pop interview with people in the 27 countries would be useful just to see their reactions when they realise (like I recently did, from reading the Conference for the Future of Europe proposals) that this is NOT the case right now. But I think the transformation of the Council is part of this, I've seen proposals to turn it into a Bundesrat like champer of the PE and so on. Both chambers would have right to legislative initiative, though possibly for different types of policy. Like you said, the Parliament should have initiative for big, transnational subjects. It needs transnational legitimacy for this, hence the need for transnational lists and parties.
During our group's discussions some of our participants said they would like to see proposals that affect their daily lives and they couldn't see what this democracy and EU institutional reform had to do with it, it seemed remote and not connected to the topics they wanted to talk about, like jobs, the economy or the portability of social rights/pension contributions etc. for those of us who work in another EU state.
To me, the link seems obvious. The European Social Security Pass is a project that addresses this. We know who supports it in the European Parliament and IF it ever comes out of the legislative process and is voted for final approval, we will know how our MEPs voted and we can hold them accountable if they oppose a measure that we, crossborder workers, support. However, if your national government blocks it in the Council, you may never even know. The Council is the place where good policy goes to die, often in complete darkness. That's why we need EU institutional reform
I believe that permanent citizens panel – similar to that one that runs within the Conference on the Future of Europe – should become one of the EU intuitions. We shouldn’t think of democratization of the EU in a traditional way, i.e. through elections etc. Traditional solutions will only transfer local problems to the EU level. Populism, misinformation, manipulations etc. constitute a big risk and it would be more difficult to address them at the level of the EU intuitions. The citizens panel could have power to formulate initiatives that other EU institutions would be obliged to implement, or to commission surveys or consultations on issues that should be analyzed on the EU level.
Eu apoio a progressiva criação de uma Federação com entrada inicial de um grupo de países fundadores a ser alargada faseadamente. Com um parlamento eleito diretamente para 4 anos com representação proporcional; um senado com igualdade de representantes em relação aos países membros (seria a continuação do Conselho da UE); um governo eleito no parlamento em que o chefe do governo seria o chefe de estado (2 vice presidentes); um tribunal federal independente e um banco central. Uma constituição simples. Os países manteriam os seus símbolos, chefes de estado, parlamentos nacionais e regionais. As competências seriam adequadas ao nível de governação. Haveria um orçamento da federação e a lei da federação seria superior às das nações (tal como já acontece na UE). Os países são livres de entrar ou de sair, sendo que cada um destes passos deveria ser referendado e aprovado com maioria de 65%.
